Pelatihan Bahasa Inggris Maritim Melalui Role Play Dan SMCP Di SMK Pelayaran Samudera Indonesia Medan
Abstract
Maritime English is an essential competence for vocational high school students in the maritime sector as preparation for entering the international maritime workforce. However, students’ communication skills remain limited, particularly in using standard expressions in real workplace situations. This Community Service activity aimed to improve the Maritime English communication skills of students at SMK Pelayaran Samudera Indonesia Medan through the implementation of role play and Standard Marine Communication Phrases (SMCP). The program was conducted through stages of preparation, training, simulation practice, and evaluation. The training materials focused on shipboard communication simulations, including communication among crew members and emergency situations in accordance with SMCP standards. The results showed improvements in students’ understanding of maritime vocabulary and their confidence in oral communication. Role play–based training integrated with SMCP proved to be effective and relevant in enhancing Maritime English communication competence among maritime vocational students
