Abstract

This study aims to implement and evaluate the effectiveness of inquiry-based learning in improving students' science process skills at Pahlawan Elementary School. Inquiry-based learning is a method that emphasizes the active involvement of students in the scientific investigation process, which is expected to improve their science process skills such as observing, classifying, formulating hypotheses, and drawing conclusions. This study was conducted using an experimental approach involving two groups of fifth-grade students, namely the experimental group that followed inquiry-based learning and the control group that followed conventional learning methods. Data were collected through science process skills tests and observations of student activities during learning. The results showed that students in the experimental group experienced a significant increase in science process skills compared to the control group. This increase includes the ability to observe, classify, and formulate and test hypotheses. In addition, students who followed inquiry-based learning showed higher motivation in learning science compared to students in the control group. These findings indicate that inquiry-based learning is not only effective in improving science process skills but also in increasing student interest and involvement. This study recommends the wider application of this method as an educational innovation in elementary schools to support the development of students' scientific skills.
